This superb Bentley was delivered new to London after being fitted with the expensive and rare Gurney Nutting coachwork, of which only about 20 examples were believed to be built. At nearly twice the price of their Park Ward bodied brethren ,exclusivity was assured.
Introduced in 1933 the Derby model dubbed “The Silent Sports Car” was fitted with a 3.5 litre engine, but later cars, like this one, featured a 4.25
litre unit with higher lift camshafts, twin carburettors, a cross flow cylinder head and an improved suspension were some of the additions.
Rebuilt some years ago to the original specifications without regard to cost and maintaining it’s original numbers this really is a very special pre-war Bentley of the highest specification.
Rebuilt and owned by Bentley aficionado Pater Wilcox ,who owned the car for 12 years, this Bentley has had an interesting history dating back to delivery to the first owner, Captain GH Balmain of the 12th Royal Lancers where it was registered ELB 451 on 26th November 1937. Captain Balmain was a keen racer of the period even competing at Brooklands in the 1932 BRDC 500 Mile race in 1932 in an MG Midget.
More recently the car has been fitted with a new flywheel, ring gear and clutch assembly by respected Bentley practitioners Crewe Motorworks.
