This superb SS Airline has only had 1 family owner for nearly 80 years, after being purchased in 1946 .
Originally delivered in Derby UK in May 1935, the car was soon in Australia and registered to a Mr J.S. Mc Carthy of Redfern NSW.
By 1942 the car had been changed from the original black to red, this colour being maintained ever since.
A thorough restoration was undertaken and a constant maintenance programme by a family of engineers has ensured the car has always been beautifully prepared ,and testament to this has been the numerous trophies and awards it has won over the years with major classic car events. In fact, we first saw this car when it was entered into the inaugural Melbourne Classic Car Show at the Royal Exhibition Building in 1985.
The 2.5 litre engine runs very smoothly aided by the addition of a new cylinder head and is quite rare still having the original twin RAG carburettors fitted.
A large quantity of spares are included plus a spare engine and a set of restored ACE wheel covers and other mainly mechanical parts.
The original but used SS Airline driver’s brochure is also with the car, thought to be unique, plus a workshop manual and other documentation.
Viewing by appointment.
